Do you have a Personal Everest story?
On the 5th September 2007, I became the first disabled sailor to sail single handed around Great Britain. Sailing my 15ft trimaran dinghy Freethinker, it was a personal challenge that took me 109 days to complete. Despite setting off into one of the worst summers on record, myself and my support team had sailed 1,500 miles and stopped at 51 destinations. For full details visit www.personaleverest.com

Launch of the Personal Everest social network

Hi everyone, I'm trying out this new social network system to see if it suits my requirements. What I'm trying to achieve, through my speaking engagements, is to encourage people to visit my website and to share their Personal Everest stories. Of course, they need not be huge mountains, they might just be dreams you have made come true through hard work and determination or they may be plans you have for when you retire, whatever they are I'd love to hear them. Hi Geoff,

Ning seems to be very similar of course to a lot of social networking pages. That said - a great idea as I am sure many people have many Personal Everests and a number of things could occur as a result of having a dedicated site to the concept...

First publicly declaring you have a Personal Everest and are/are not going to "go for it". Sort of commits you to the program!

Second someone may "go for it" and succeed or not succeed as the case may be. The important bit is that they will have tried and that is a win in itself.

Then there is what happens afterwards, do you try and try again, or if impossible to repeat for whatever reason how can you draw positives from the experience.

A big item of course is does it / would it also inspire others to do the same? As yours has done of course.

Others may realise they don't have a Personal Everest and do or don't actually want one. Some are happy with their lot in life and get enough satisfaction from viewing others doing their Personal Everests in much the same way as a grandparent or parent can watch their descendants doing something positive. It still provides a positive feedback for those too.

You've got me thinking about a few ideas anyway :-)

Down to practicalities though.... I will check out the Joomla plug in components to see if they can be added to your own site so you have a unified theme and of course the full domain name.

We can discuss maybe over a cuppa early in the new year?

Paul
